Still working

Still trying to get something started, a place of my own, but it is really hard money wise. Right now that seems to be the biggest sticking point. I have a guy who is making stuff for me like prowlers, sleds, and a rack for cheap but it’s just too expensive for me right now. That is really just wearing at me; I need to figure out something soon. Whether it is financial backing or some partners in this endeavor it needs to happen quick. Still I will keep my head above the water and try harder this year to get something going. It won’t be easy though school is starting back up again so that will consume a chunk of my time.

Alright enough of the sob story, here it is another workout for you to try. This one is called the 5-150; it is a spinoff of the 300 workout in that the base exercises and order in which they are done are the same. The only difference is that you start off with 5 tire flips. We used our 500 # tire for this.

Tire Flips x 5

Dead Lifts @135 # x 25

Push Ups x 25

24” Box Jumps x 25

Floor Wipers @ 135 # x 25

KB Clean & Press @ 35 # x 25

Pull Ups x 25

Do circuit 2 x with a 3-5 min rest in between circuits.

All done for time

On my own

Since the end of August I have been training myself. Trying new things here and bringing old things back there. Since I have broken away from the old strength and conditioning gym I was working at I noticed something, I have made huge gains in the strength department as well as losing weight and body fat. Makes me wonder was I being held back by following someone else. Well the proof is in the gains. His workouts were stupid just pick up as much weight and throw it around, which never did anything beneficial to me but hurt my joints. As for a deload time you were called a pu$$y if you tried to take that. His meals were eating out at a Mexican fast food place, El Polo Loco and a Japanese place. Real healthy! He would preach about diet but yet he himself would eat like crap. As for any knowledge of programs he had none. He got a certification from some place and a few months later opened a gym and thought he knew everything. Well he didn’t then and he never will. If you saw this person about 1 ½ year ago and were to see him now he actually looks worse than before. He had size on him then, now he just looks like a 13 year old boy with some strength. What the point to all of this is be careful who you train with look at them and their lives, if that’s what you want then train with them, if not then search some more. Because it is easy to talk a big talk but do they actually walk that same walk.

Into the New Year

Well it's over a week into the New Year and I have been working hard at getting things together for the gym. It is still a slower than I like process but it is not exactly cheap. I will have more time to dedicate to it now so that is a step in the right direction. Another good site for you to check out would be Synergy Athletics. Joe knows his stuff and is a down to earth kind of guy.

Did a workout the other day called it The Torch for the fact it gets you really heated up. All it uses is a kettlebell and a pull up bar. Here it is try it and let me know what you think.

1a) 1 handed kettlebell swings x 10, 8, 6 and 4

1b) Pull ups x 15-20

1c) BW squats x 15-20

1d) Pushups x 15-20

1e) Full sit ups x 15-20

1f) 1 handed kettlebell swings x 4, 6, 8 and 10

3-5 rounds 2-3 min breaks between rounds

Swings are done as follows: 10 with left, 10 with right, 8 with left, 8 with right and so on.

1 round is 1a-1f all the way thru.

Something worth the read

This was a guest post from Henry Rollins on Zach Even-esh's site. Henry is a man that I have respected for many years, he is a straight shooter who takes no crap from anyone. He pulled himself out of pits of hell to become a strong individual mentally and physically. This is his take on iron

Sit back and enjoy.

What is your goals?

First off let me start by saying Merry Christmas. Well things are moving along with me we have more kettle bells, bars, plates, bags, tires, sledge, sleds and prowlers. So it is moving along quite nicely, slowly but nicely. My goals for next year are to quit my corporate gym job and start my own, clean my diet up and lose more body fat, take more classes in school and finally stick to the program that I wrote and see what the results are. What are yours? Leave them in the comments that way it has been seen by others and we can help hold you accountable. Happy New Year. Hopefully next year will be a good year for us all.

Was I ever wrong

I did yoga today for the first time, damn let me tell you I thought I was strong and that yoga was going to be a piece of cake. WRONG! It was one of the most difficult balancing acts I have ever done. As I was doing it I was sweating profusely, my core was getting tore up and my muscles were starting to ache. Plus it taught me something about myself that I didn’t realize, I am not flexible. This is a bad thing for the mere fact I am more prone to injury. Which I am like most guys that workout I never stretch. So from now on I am going to be stretching, foam rolling and doing yoga to help with my flexibility issues. Plus stretching and foam rolling help with muscle soreness and we all hate to have the feeling of not being able to use that part due to pain. Not only does it help in those areas but it is also peaceful and with the way the world, the gym and work are it’s a nice to relax for once (Well sort of). I would advise you to do the same. If you don’t have a gym to do it at or don’t want your friends to see you walking in or out for fear of them teasing you get a DVD and do it at home. Try it you will be surprised.
